Born in Alexandria, Egypt, May 3, 1934, to Jewish parents of Greek language, Judeo-Italian from the island of Corfu, he grew up in a multicultural environment (Jewish, Greek, Turkish, Italian, Arabic, French) and quickly developed a passion for literature and French songs (including Edith Piaf).

Came to Paris in 1951, he works as a journalist, then as a bartender in a piano bar, which leads to frequent musical personalities of the time.

He intends to Georges Brassens occur one evening and it is for him a revelation. He never stopped thereafter to refer to his master, up to adopt his name in his honor. In 1958, he met Edith Piaf, for whom he wrote one of his most famous songs, my lord.

It will be a great lady with fiery relationship but short. Throughout the 1960s, he positions himself as a composer, lyricist for the great names of French chanson as
Yves Montand , Barbara and especially Serge Reggiani .

He creates songs that remain among his greatest hits: Sarah, My Solitude Joseph and My Freedom, or the long dark lady interprets it as a duet with Barbara. His motto is: the man from the dream.

In 1968, artist engaged at the time of the events of May 68, he wrote, composed and performed the Métèque, a romantic ballad that speaks of a foreigner a little ethereal dreamer, unattached. It is a great international success which marks a new beginning of his artistic career.

In January 1970 he made his first big concert featured at Bobino. We then discover an artist who prefers a warm, close with his audience.

During the next three decades, he traveled the world to produce but also to find new inspirations.
