Hugues Aufray, born Jean Marie
Hugues Auffray August 18, 1929 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, is a French
singer and guitarist. Often poetic, her songs evoke travel,
friendship, brotherhood, respect. Hughes is the third son of
Henry
Auffray, an industrialist and diplomat and Amielle of
Caubios Andiran of a musician. He is the brother of actress
Pascale Andret (1936-2000) and uncle of actress Julie Dreyfus
Parents of Hugues Aufray divorce and the family left Paris for
Sorèze in the Tarn, the land of their ancestors. During the war
he studied (1941-1945) at the College of Sorèze.
In 1945, Hugh joined his father in Madrid and there is still
three years before returning to France and start singing in
Spanish. Then very quickly he interprets the songs of Félix
Leclerc, Georges Brassens, Serge Gainsbourg and other singers.
The winner of the competition numbers of a Tomorrow, he was

Hugues Aufray also draws its
repertoire in Spanish folklore, Anglo-Saxon and Latin American
as well as blues and rock. He also worked with many composers,
including Andre Georget, Jean-Pierre Sabar, Georges Augier of
Moussac, Guy Magenta and with the poet Kabyle Lounis Ait
Menguellet.
In 1964, Hugues Aufray represents Luxembourg at the Eurovision
Song Contest and finished fourth with the song As soon as spring
comes.
Some of his songs are well known as Stewball or Santiano.
He was the first French singer to be discovered Bob Dylan and
adapt the songs. Translations of Anglo-Saxon texts, including
those of Bob Dylan, often sweeten the rawness of the original
text.
The musical arrangements that make great use of acoustic guitar
show an influence of American folk. He was also the first to
perform on stage with a "skiffle group".
In July 1984, he sang "The Times They Are a-Changin" a duet with
Bob Dylan to the park of Sceaux and Grenoble.

He divides his time between his home near Paris, and his farm in
the Ardeche. Passion for horse riding, horse shows he created
(the Cavaliers without Borders), riding courses for children and
a ranch in the Alps. This passion was born in the School - Abbey
Sorèze (81) where he attended high school.
His name appears in the tables of alumni. He was also very
interested in sailing and spends part of his repertoire to the
sea and sailors.
Hugues Aufray is defined himself "from the right bank and left
